Year One had the opportunity to visit the woods last week – something we absolutely loved. Not only the fact that we had the freedom to explore, venture anywhere we wanted, build dens, climb trees, find insects and even see horses. But also that the journey down there provide the stimulus for us to natural consolidate our science learning this term (decidious and evergreen trees)! Boy did we take advantage of this!!! Although at times we though that any green leaf was an evergeen one thing was clear we knew what each term meant and we knew that Holly and Ivy are types of everygreen… not bad for year one! The whole experience was magical with the children using rich and exciting language, working collaboratively and asking really thought provoking questions- all of which in this wonderfully calm environment. All finished off with hot chocolate and a fantastic review where the children are now becoming experts at identifying how they are learning! And of course some sad faces when we had to leave… luckily we have lots of adventures planned in the forest next term to try and answer some of the questions the children had including how will the trees look when we come back next? If you get the chance visit the forest yourselves with your child and share what you find on Tapestry.
