Broomhill Infant School

Our First Week

September 10, 2022

We have had a brilliant first week together exploring our learning environment and developing  a positive growth mindset. The children have loved the opportunity to explore a classroom filled with interesting and unique materials that challenge their thinking and encourage them to ‘think outside the box’. They have really rose to the challenge coming up with creative and imaginative representations of their learning. They have also already surprised us with their amazing writing and math skills using them in lots of different ways including preparing for our guinea pigs arrival this week. Pumpkin and Poppy have settled in well and the children have quickly fallen in love with them taking great pride in caring for them and making sure that they are happy and loved. During this week we made an amazing discovery – we have a large amount of ladybird larvae in our garden. This has led to many questions such as what animal was it? do they come from eggs? what do the eggs look like? what kind of tree do they live in? How big are the eggs? What colour are the eggs? etc and lots of investigating the garden with the children. We have already begun  studying them, finding out what they were and what they look like but the children had so many questions that we will continue to learn about them next week when we hope to find out all about their life cycle… I wonder what other interesting facts we will learn!
