A visit to St Luke’s Church

December 1, 2022

We were very lucky this week to be invited to St Luke’s Church for a visit. There were lots of lovely volunteers waiting there to greet us and they had spent lots of time preparing some fun and interactive activities to teach us all about what a church is. Led by Sue and Laura we first spent time answering questions and learning all about the history of St Luke’s – can you believe it is 800 years old! before having lots of time to explore. We went on  an angel hunt (there were 54 angels), we played songs on bells, we coloured pictures of St Luke’s, we drew our hopes and dreams for the future, we tried on real vicar clothing and choir clothing, listened to Bible stories and looked at real bibles and got to touch and look at important parts of a church such as the font, the pulpit, the pews and the stained glass windows. We then came back together to sing a song and ask some questions – of course in true Holly Class style we had lots and lots of questions such as how many people are in the graveyard? How do you get people to pray? How many people go to the church? What are the windows called? What are the stories about in the window? How many stories are in the Bible? Who made the special pillows we are sitting on? and many more…. We had an amazing time and were made to feel so welcome. We must go back for a visit soon!
