Halloween Week and Bonfire Night

November 8, 2022

What an exciting way to start the term with Halloween on Monday!  We had such an amazing time learning all about the history of Halloween. How the celebration has evolved from a Celtic celebration of the end of Harvest time filled with a huge bonfire, dressing up and dancing. Then how it gradually, through peoples misconceptions over the changing seasons and early evenings, the fables of ghosts and witches began which formed the roots of what we now know Halloween to be! The children were fascinated (and so were we!) We had so much fun making our learning as cross curriculuar as possible writing spooky poems in English, solving trick or treat poems in maths, using art to help develop our rich vocabulary as well as making full use of our mud kitchen to apply our literacy and maths skills. By Friday our attention turned to another exciting time of year rich with an exciting story for us to learn: Bonfire Night. The children loved researching why we really celebrate Bonfire night and all about the failed gun powder plot! Let’s face it who doesn’t like a good baddie! Again using art to reinforce the learning and bring it to life for the children. The whole time reinforcing the message of being safe. We really hope you had a fantastic fireworks night and enjoyed all the festivities.
