Broomhill Infant School

Guy Fawkes, Diwali and some super art

November 5, 2021

This week we found out about Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot which took place in 1605.
We looked at clues, watched information videos and created a whole class poster about the events of the plot including who was involved, why it took place and how it was stopped.

We also celebrated Diwali with lots of fun activities. We made lanterns and paper cup bunting to decorate our classroom, looked at Rangoli patterns and wrote Diwali cards for our friends.
We listened to the story of Rama and Sita and found out how Hindu’s celebrate this special time of year.

We have been learning how to colour mix in Art. We recapped our knowledge of the primary and secondary colours and found out how to make tertiary colours. These are colours where a primary colour is added to a secondary colour. The children all had a go at creating their own colour wheels and did a fantastic job of making the correct colours. Some children then chose to have a go at mixing colours for their own firework pictures in their provision time.

We have also been enjoying our new shelter and outdoor learning areas and been having lots of fun in provision, building Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, bird watching and describing the things we can see around us in nature.

What a great first week back Sycamore Class!
